Protection
Skylights, ventilation, snow stops, heat trace and gutter guards, ice dam repairs and wildfire protection: the parts that keep a roof working through winter and summer.
Snow and Height
Lake Country’s snow depends on how high you are. Environment Canada’s lakeshore station at Okanagan Centre records about 69 cm a year; up at Winfield it’s about 91 cm, about the same as Kelowna’s airport (1981–2010 normals).
It Stays Longer Up the Hill
At Winfield there’s usually about 15 cm of snow on the ground in January, against 10 cm at Kelowna’s airport (Environment Canada, 1981–2010). Snow that sits is what turns into ice dams at the eaves.
Newer Homes
About four in ten Lake Country homes were built in 2006 or later (2021 census). The oldest of those are now about 20 years old, which is when a first shingle roof starts to want a look.
