Moss Removal & Roof Cleaning.

We take moss off roofs across Kelowna and the Okanagan, by hand and with low pressure, never a chemical wash, and clear the needles and debris while we’re up there.

What moss does to a roof.

Moss holds water against the shingle and creeps up under the courses, lifting them as it thickens, so the roof stays wet long after the weather has cleared. Once the courses lift, water can get in underneath.

On a shaded slope under Okanagan pines it takes hold fast.

Drag it across. Same roof.

The frame does not move between the two halves — what changes is the roof.

How we take it off.

We take moss off by hand and with low-pressure methods, with no chemical wash.

While we’re up there, we clear the needles, leaves and branches off the roof and out of the valleys too.

Embers collect in valleys and gutters, so keeping them clear of needles and leaves is also part of a more wildfire-resistant roof.

After

One of our moss jobs: the same shingle roof, before and after.

Keeping it from coming back.

Where it keeps returning, we can fit zinc strips near the ridge, so rain carries zinc down the slope and slows regrowth.

A maintenance visit helps too. On most pitched roofs that is once a year, usually in autumn once the pines have dropped, and it catches any moss taking hold on the shaded slopes while it is still a stain rather than a mat.

Inspection.

The inspection and the quote are free: we go over the roof, photograph what we find, and give you the photos and a quote to fix it. If the moss has lifted or damaged shingles, the photos show you where. Moss, algae and organic growth are on our checklist.

Gutters.

The same pines that shade the roof keep filling the gutters with needles. We clean and repair gutters and eavestroughs, and if you’re tired of cleaning them every autumn, we fit custom gutter guards, made with pine and fir needles in mind.

Drains.

On a flat roof, cleaning is mostly the drains and scuppers. Needles and grit pack around a drain until it stops taking water, and then the roof holds a pond every time it rains. A blocked drain in November is a pond all winter.
