Thermoplastic Polyolefin.
Single‑Ply. Heat‑Welded.

TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is a single-ply reflective roofing membrane made from polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber. Laid in wide sheets, TPO is fused at the seams with hot-air welders.

TPO is white, so it reflects the sun instead of soaking it up, and its seams are welded, not glued. That takes load off the cooling system all summer.

Why TPO Leads Commercial Flat Roofing
  • IKO Certified Installer — Diamond Shield Warranty available
  • IKO is our go-to brand. We also offer other brands
  • Heat-welded seams
  • Reflects about 78% of solar energy when new, 73% weathered

The Membrane, Up Close.

Reinforced thermoplastic polyolefin over a polyester scrim. The seam you see isn’t glued — it’s fused with hot air. That’s why TPO fields stay monolithic for decades.

Why Choose TPO.

Heat-Welded Seams
Seams are welded with hot air, not glued or taped. A good weld is stronger than the sheet beside it.
Solar Reflectivity
TPO’s bright white surface reflects about 78% of solar energy when new and 73% after three years of weathering, reducing cooling loads and energy costs.
UV & Weather Resistance
Made to stand up to strong sun, ozone and weather without cracking, so the membrane stays sound through hot Okanagan summers.
Puncture Resistance
Reinforced with a polyester scrim for exceptional tear and puncture resistance. TPO maintains its integrity under foot traffic and rooftop equipment.
Low Maintenance
Once installed, TPO requires minimal upkeep. Periodic inspections and clearing debris keep it working.
Cost-Effective
TPO is strong value in commercial flat roofing: competitive material and installation costs, a lower cooling load, and little maintenance.

Ideal For.

TPO excels on commercial and multi-family flat roof applications where energy efficiency and long-term performance are priorities.

  • Commercial Flat Roofs
Office buildings, retail centres, and commercial properties that demand reflective, low-maintenance roofing with proven energy savings.
  • Multi-Family Residential
Apartment complexes, condominiums, and townhouse developments where TPO’s clean aesthetics and energy efficiency benefit both owners and residents.
  • Retail & Warehouse
Large-footprint buildings that benefit from TPO’s reflective surface, reducing cooling costs across expansive roof areas while maintaining watertight integrity.

TPO in the Okanagan.

Okanagan roofs take hard sun, deep cold and constant freeze-thaw. TPO is built for all three.

Freeze-Thaw Cycling
TPO’s thermoplastic composition maintains flexibility through Okanagan freeze-thaw cycles.
UV & Sun Exposure
Kelowna gets a lot of sun, and a white roof throws most of it back. TPO’s white reflective surface bounces about 78% of solar energy, reducing roof surface temperatures and extending membrane life.
Temperature Extremes
Summer highs above +40°C and winter lows below −25°C put extreme thermal stress on roofing. TPO stays flexible through Okanagan winters and stable through its summers.

TPO FAQ.

A professionally installed TPO roof typically lasts 20–30 years. Membrane thickness, seam quality and regular maintenance all affect how long.
Both are single-ply thermoplastic membranes with heat-welded seams. TPO is generally more cost-effective and offers excellent UV resistance, while PVC has superior chemical resistance. For most commercial applications in the Okanagan, TPO provides the best balance of performance and value.
Yes. TPO’s white reflective surface reflects about 78% of solar energy when new, and about 73% once it has weathered a few years, reducing cooling costs.
TPO seams are heat-welded using hot-air welding equipment at temperatures between 400–600°C. This makes one continuous sheet across the seam.
Absolutely. TPO stays flexible through Okanagan winters and stable through its summers. Its reflective surface reduces thermal stress in summer, while its flexible thermoplastic composition handles freeze-thaw cycling without cracking or splitting.
